A small brooch with quite a presence! This Spanish damascene Toledo ware brooch features an elaborate winged mythical creature against a black background, framed by scrolling foliage and a striking geometric outline.

The detail deserves a closer look. The central creature rises in relief, with finely textured wings and sculpted contours, while delicate gold-colored decoration fills the surrounding panels. The symmetry and stepped silhouette give the piece a distinctly Art Deco character.

Condition: The decorated front is beautifully preserved, with crisp raised detail. The back retains oxidation and discoloration; loose rust has been removed. The pin has been cleaned, and the trombone clasp operates perfectly. Please review the photographs of both sides.

This brooch came from Aunt Nen and Uncle George’s collection of treasures gathered during their travels. It was found among their other travel keepsakes, including Toledo ware.
