VINTAGE Pflueger Akron No 1893 Fishing Reel on Custom Display Stand Baitcasting Made in USA

Vintage Pflueger Akron No. 1893 level-wind baitcasting fishing reel, presented on a custom display stand incorporating an old fishing rod handle.

Made by the Enterprise Manufacturing Company in Akron, Ohio, this classic American fishing reel has wonderful period character, including its old braided fishing line still wound on the spool and the distinctive jeweled-looking bearing/oil cap.

The reel is marked PFLUEGER / AKRON / NO. 1893 and also bears the marking PATENTED. PATS. PENDING.

The reel has been checked for basic mechanical operation. The spool turns, the reel feeds line and reels it back in, and the level-wind mechanism operates. I have not attempted to cast or fish with the reel, and it is being offered primarily as a vintage collectible and display piece rather than as serviced fishing equipment.

To give the reel some of the context it would have had when originally used, I mounted an old fishing rod handle to a custom black wood display base. The rod handle is NOT original to the reel and is not represented as such. Fishing rods and reels of this type were commonly purchased separately.

The reel itself has not been permanently altered or attached to the display. It is held in place by its normal reel mounting hardware and can be removed from the rod handle for closer examination, collecting or use.

The display base has a cork bottom to protect furniture.

The reel shows authentic age and use, including surface wear, oxidation and other signs of its long working life. The old braided fishing line has intentionally been left in place as part of the piece's history and visual character. Please examine the photographs carefully for condition.

This is a particularly handsome piece of early American fishing equipment and a terrific display object for a fishing collection, lake house, cabin, lodge, office, bookshelf or vintage sporting display.
