Vintage Fred Arbogast Jitterbug fishing lure in a classic frog pattern, displayed on a custom-made black wood stand.
Made by Fred Arbogast in Akron, Ohio, this wonderful old Jitterbug has clearly lived the life it was made for. The painted finish shows authentic wear, including scratches, paint loss and discoloration from years of use. The metal hardware and treble hooks show age and oxidation. I have carefully cleaned the lure while intentionally preserving its vintage finish and character.
The underside of the distinctive metal lip is marked JITTERBUG / MFD. BY FRED ARBOGAST / AKRON, OHIO and carries patent numbers including 2,261,867, 2,207,425 and 2,429,339. The patent markings help place this example no earlier than the late 1940s.
The lure is presented on a simple custom display stand that allows its wonderful shape, painted eyes and old hardware to be appreciated from every angle. The lure is not permanently attached. It hangs on brass-colored supports and can easily be removed for closer observation.
The black wood base measures approximately 3 inches in diameter and has a cork bottom to protect furniture. The complete display stands approximately 5-1/2 inches tall. The lure body measures approximately 2-1/2 inches, and the metal lip is approximately 2 inches wide.
This is an authentic vintage fishing lure showing considerable evidence of actual use, not a restored example. Please examine the photographs carefully for condition. Its aged finish is part of its wonderful vintage character.
SAFETY NOTE: This vintage fishing lure retains its original-style treble hooks, which are extremely sharp. This is not a toy and should be displayed well out of the reach of children and pets. Please use caution when removing the lure from its stand or handling it for closer examination.
