Issued by the Bank of China during the Republican era, this note combines two enduring symbols of modern China. The front features a portrait of Sun Yat-sen, the revolutionary leader often regarded as the father of modern China, while the reverse depicts Beijing's iconic Temple of Heaven, one of the country's most recognizable historic landmarks.
Printed in rich shades of rose and crimson, the note showcases the detailed engraving and craftsmanship for which early twentieth-century banknotes are celebrated.
