This note comes from a group of Chinese banknotes brought home from Shanghai by my father during World War II, where he served as a U.S. Army payroll sergeant.
As family lore tells it, when wartime inflation rendered many of these notes nearly worthless, soldiers were told they could "decorate their Christmas trees with them." Evidence of earlier mounting remains visible, adding to the story and authenticity of the piece.
