π Vintage Marquetry Jewelry / Keepsake Box with Inlaid Birds
This charming wooden box features a decorative marquetry inlay of two birds perched on a branch surrounded by leaves, carefully set into a richly grained walnut-toned wood lid. Boxes of this style were widely produced in Italian woodworking shops during the mid-20th century, particularly in regions known for decorative marquetry such as Sorrento.
Small wooden boxes like this were often used for jewelry, cufflinks, sewing notions, or keepsakes, and they were popular gifts and souvenirs during the post-war era.

When acquired, the surface finish was uneven and slightly dull from age and handling. The box was carefully cleaned using furniture refinisher to remove accumulated grime and oxidized finish, then conditioned with a beeswax polish, which revived the warmth of the wood grain while preserving the original character.
No sanding or aggressive refinishing was performed.
The interior was intentionally left unlined to preserve the natural wood grain, which is often covered in modern alterations but is part of the original craftsmanship.
