✨ Vintage CorningWare Cookmates Covered Skillet
This vintage CorningWare Cookmates SK-10 skillet comes from Corning’s innovative Cookmates line and includes its matching Pyrex glass lid.

Unlike traditional decorated CorningWare casserole dishes, Cookmates cookware was produced in the clean “Just White” finish, emphasizing a modern look suited to contemporary kitchens.

The Cookmates line was introduced as Corning expanded into electric cooking systems and promoted its smooth-top cook surfaces with the slogan “The Counter That Cooks.” These pieces were engineered with extra-flat, ground bases designed to maximize contact with smooth cooktops for efficient heat transfer.

The result was a practical, forward-looking piece of cookware that blended Corning’s durable Pyroceram glass-ceramic technology with the emerging electric kitchens of the 1970s.

💬 Auntie Nen’s Note
Corning constantly experimented with how cookware interacted with evolving kitchens. When smooth-top electric cooktops appeared, they introduced the Cookmates line, whose carefully flattened bases were designed to sit perfectly on Corning’s glass cooking surfaces.

It’s a fascinating moment when mid-century cookware design met the future of electric kitchens.

If you enjoy the story behind CorningWare, I recently shared a short video explaining how Pyroceram — the remarkable material used to make these dishes — was originally developed in Corning’s laboratories before becoming a kitchen staple.
