This rare Sierra-Columbia TV Lamp harkens back to a time when television was relatively new... some skeptics were sure it would never "catch on!" Mothers of the time, including mine, were certain that it was going to cause eyesight problems if you watched too much, especially in a dark room. Hence the invention of the TV Lamp, which took many shapes are often sought after by collectors today.
This beauty consists of 2 pottery dishes that sits firmly into the bottom part of the cage. Both pieces are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or crazing. The center of the cage rises through circle formed by the vessels, and is lined with a green-colored fiberglass material. The fiberglass has been carefully cleaned of grime; there is some slight discoloration where the parts that were hidden from light by the metal cage have faded less that the parts exposed to daylight, but it can't be seen when the piece is in place. The metal cage has been cleaned of dust and grime. It shows some rust spots where the gold-tone finish has failed; I've left that untouched, for fear of reducing value for collectors. The electrical component is intact and in great condition with a new bulb. The switch works perfectly and there's no damage to the cord. It measure 10" in diameter and stands 7" tall.
This beauty is ready to be a showpiece atop your enormous 23" Zenith console TV... or perhaps just as a touch of nostalgia in your 50's inspired family room!
